How to Organize Your Backroom or Offsite Storage

Best practices for organizing your bins so they're easy to find, pull, and restock.

Every store is different

Storage spaces vary in size and layout. This is our recommended best practice — adapt it as needed for your store.

The recommended approach

  1. 1

    Group bins by number

Sort bins sequentially by bin number — keep bins 0–99 together, 100–199 together, and so on. This makes it much harder for a bin to get misplaced or lost.

  2. 2

Dedicate a section of storage to each number range

Assign each area of your backroom or storage unit to a specific range of bin numbers. Anyone on the team will know exactly where to look when pulling or putting away a bin.

  3. 3

Keep the numbering consistent across locations

If your store uses multiple storage spaces — a backroom and an offsite unit — maintain the same numbering convention in each. Consistent organization speeds up bin pulls and restocking across your whole operation.
