Using collections on your site
Click here to view our training videos and see this in action!
Here’s how to update your site to feature some of the new collections, once we have added them for you:
Update your top menu
Go to the Navigation settings
- In your Shopify admin, click "Online Store" under Sales Channels
- Click "Navigation" under Online Store
- Click "Main Menu"
Add or update the links in your menu
- You can click to add new menu items, or edit the existing ones (nothing will update on your site until you click to Save, so you can take your time!)
- For each menu item, you will link it to a desired collection
- Select the right collection to link to, then click "Add"
- You can click "Collections" and scroll through all the options, or you can type to search for a specific collection
- To review the names of available collections, see this article
Creating dropdowns
- To “nest” menu items, click and drag to move one item underneath the other
- You can also drag to rearrange items in the list
Save and update
Make sure you click Save at the top or it will not save any changes you make! If you click off of the page, you will lose all your changes
- You can also link to other items, not just collections. You can create a page with text information, and link to that page (like Shipping policies). You can also paste a full URL to link to a different site, like your Instagram page
Update your home page
- In your Shopify admin, click "Online Store" under Sales Channels
- Click "Theme" under Online Store
- Click the "Customize" button next to your theme, and it will open an editor
- In the editor, you can review all the sections of your site, and click on any section to edit
- Within any section, you can control the wording or where buttons link. See more details for common section types below!
- Nothing is live on your site until you save, so you can take your time. When you are done editing, make sure you click Save at the top
Examples for specific site sections
- Adding a section- If you like one of the sections below, and don't have it on your site, you can add it!
- The exact sections available will depend on your theme, but most themes should have these options
- Scroll down and click "Add section" and find the desired type
- Click on that type, then click "Add"
- You can click and drag to rearrange where that section displays on your site

- Hiding a section- If you are not using a section currently, but may want to use it again later, you can make it invisible on your site
- Click the "eye" icon next to a section, and it will be hidden. Click it again any time later to make that section visible again

- Collection List
- Click on the section to edit it
- Edit the Heading to add a name for the group (Such as "Girls" or "Shop now") - You can also delete the words "Collection List" and remove the title completely
- Adjust the slider to choose how many collections display across the page
- Click "Add collection" to add more collection squares
- Then click "Select" for each square and choose which collection to feature there

- You can click and drag to rearrange them, or delete extra unused squares
- You can come back and swap out the collections any time to feature seasonal items! Just click on any square, and click "Change" to choose a new collection
- You can also add multiple different collection lists on your home page to highlight different groups of items (Ex: one for "Boys" and one for "Girls", with a few top collections for each)
- It will set the background image to be a photo of one of your products in that collection. If you'd rather upload your own picture to use, you can: - Go back to your Shopify admin, click "Products", then "Collections." Click any collection to edit and upload your preferred photo.
- You can do this later, and it will update on your site to use that image

- Text columns with images
- Click on the section to edit
- Pick one of the text columns to edit
- You can add or change the picture, edit the text, or add a button
- Scroll down and look for Button label and Button link
- Type a name in "Button label" to add a button (or edit the text to rename the button)
- Click on "Button link" and search for any collection. Then the button will link there!

- Image with text / Slideshow
- "Image with text overlay" is a single image option, and "Slideshow" rotates through multiple photos. Both can have just an image, or an image with a link to a page
- Click that section to edit it
- Click to add or change the image (For slideshows, look for "Image slide" under Content)
- Scroll down and look for Button label and Button link (For slideshows, click on an image slide first)
- Type a name in "Button label" to add a button (or edit to rename it)
- Click on "Button link" and search for any collection. Then the button will link there
